Exercise Can Improve Your Recovery After Surgery, Just Like It Did for Aggy

Long time trainer, Aggy Sapienza, had to undergo an unexpected knee replacement surgery. Even she was amazed by her quick recovery.

It had been almost two weeks following my knee surgery when I started writing this blog. I must admit, I am in awe of myself.

As part of my physical therapy, the hospital sent me home with a walker, a cane, and a recumbent exercise bike. The workout bike has a maximum level of 6, which is where I started! I knew that if I went into the surgery strong, I would come out of it strong, and it worked.

Those of you who take my classes have heard me often say that we should practice lunges because I wanted to strengthen my quads, which will help me stand. It worked!

I never unpacked the walker or the cane that the hospital sent me home with.

I was able to walk into my house coming home from the hospital and was able to go to bed upstairs all by myself.

In the morning I even carry down my two small dogs from upstairs because they can’t use the stairs.

I follow a Facebook group for partial knee replacements, and they all seem to be using walkers and canes, and pain meds for weeks. I'm embarrassed to post on it, informing everyone that I'm almost back to normal.

Despite the fact that I'm doing pretty much everything, I'm wary of squatting and lunging.

I can’t wait to hear what my doctor says about my recovery. It all has to do with a positive mindset and a strong body. It’s so important to keep your body strong so that you are ready for anything that may come your way. I never had knee issues and it suddenly came on. I’m so glad I was strong and positive going in because the outcome so far is amazing.

I resumed my classes last week and was thrilled to see you all again. This was something I really missed. There's no doubt that exercising really pays off. it pays off to be fit.

Yours always,

Aggy
